Snap into a Slim Print
February 15, 2006
W herever shall we take our holiday this year?
"Can't we rest our trunks for a spell? Holiday in Gstaad, New Year's in Palm Beach. Then safari, followed by recovery in St. Barth's. Oh, and Capri in August."
"But I'm bored."
"Perhaps we're due some culture."
"Oh, no. A dreaded museum? I am not waiting in line again for cadavers wrapped in gauze."
"No, dahlink. Los Angeles-style culture: Fred Segal. We can shop for resort and then hit the cafe tomorrow evening for the opening of Slim Aarons's exhibit. Photographers' Gallery has organized the show and it will be up from February 16 until May 15. You remember dear Slim, the photographer who captured "attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places."
Just our speed. Kennedys, royalty, movie stars, and gin and tonics on the yacht."
"What's more, Aarons's portraits influenced all kinds of designers, including Kate Spade, who curated this show."
"You know, pet, it just seems like we should be among his other subjects."
"Oh, we will be, dear."
Opening, Thursday, February 16, 6-10 p.m. The Cafe at Fred Segal, 8112 Melrose Avenue, at Crescent Heights Boulevard, West Hollywood (323-653-7970).
